About - Charles
Charles Carpenter-Simms, affectionately known as “Bobo Bustem Up” by his late uncle Joe and “CLSmooth” by his mom, is a 6’2″ defensive back in the 2026 class who attends Newton South High School in Massachusetts. A natural athlete and leader, Charles embodies determination, discipline, and a passion for football that has been with him since early childhood.
The youngest of nine siblings, Charles grew up surrounded by a large, supportive family that has been instrumental in shaping his values and goals. His journey in football began in 3rd grade, but his love for the sport started even earlier. At just 4 years old, Charles boldly told his mom that he wanted to become a football player and a pastor so he could minister to his team on Sundays. This combination of athletic ambition and a desire to inspire others remains central to who Charles is today.

Charles has been a three-year varsity starter for Newton South’s football team, earning recognition for his skill, versatility, and leadership. Known for his high football IQ, Charles has become a key player on both sides of the ball, excelling as a wide receiver (WR) and cornerback (CB). His ability to read plays, anticipate his opponent’s moves, and make game-changing decisions sets him apart as a player.
Initially focused on defense, Charles gained attention as a dominant DB, shutting down receivers and making critical tackles. However, his coaches soon realized his potential on offense. His transition to a dual role as a WR/CB highlights his adaptability and work ethic. Charles’ dedication to his craft and his team has earned him respect from teammates, coaches, and opponents alike.
